The Save Our Sleep™ guide to keeping babies safe at night.

I’ve drawn on my many years of experience, research and knowledge to put this guide together for you. I would like parents to be able to come to one place for all the information they need when it comes to bedding for their baby.

This guide covers:

  • Where to sleep your baby
  • Cots and mini-cribs
  • Mattresses
  • Mattress protectors
  • Dressing the bed
  • Clothing for the baby
  • Age-appropriate recommendations
  • Location-appropriate recommendations
  • A case study of baby Rylen not sleeping safely and getting very restless at night.

This guide is divided into three easy-to-follow sections. Bedding for your baby outlines the items your baby should have to sleep in, such as cots, cribs and blankets. Clothing your baby provides information on dressing your baby for sleep. Putting your baby to bed looks at cocooning and room temperature. There are also a set of quick and easy reference tables at the end of the guide to assist you.

Included within the guide are many of the questions I’m often asked about these topics, with detailed answers and solutions, and two case studies in which I’ve assisted families with their baby’s sleeping. The information in the guide comes from what I’ve found works. Please be aware it is purely a guide, and to be used as such. My aim is to simplify the process of bedding for your baby, eliminate the myths and help you successfully navigate your way through parenthood.

Any products I mention within the guide are readily available to you in the Save Our Sleep® webstore and showroom. All products are tried and tested and come with my personal recommendation. I only stock products in my store that I know to be best for our families, especially our babies.

What do you need for a new baby?

I'm not usually one for posting reviews however this is worth the exception! 3rd sos baby 16 weeks old - first 2 boys took to the routine like a dream. My 3rd baby has not taken as successfully, whilst we have a fairly good night sleep (the odd night here and there with 3 hourly waking) most nights he wakes 2-3 times. He has never linked a sleep cycle during the day naps. Chronic catnapper! I had followed everything by the book except.... BEDDING. I thought I'd make do with what I had. Well this week, I ordered a set of bamboo cot sheets, the wrap in a wrap and the 1 tog sleeping bag. I already had a cotton/bamboo blend blanket & 100% cotton clothing. • Night one he woke at 1pm & 6am. • Day one 9am nap; he woke at 9.50 and for the first time ever resettled in 10 mins and slept until 11am. • Night 2, slept from 7pm for 9 hours and fed at 4am, slept until 7am The last 2 nights I've put to bed a smiling baby who has gone to sleep without a peep. No protest. I don't want to count my chickens before they hatch but I can't see that this can all be coincidence. As I said I'm not one for reviews but this truly has worked wonders. Thanks Tizzie x

I never take the time to write a review or write recommendations or simply write to say a HUGE thank you however I wish someone had told me about the benefits of using these products prior to stocking up a nursery full of polyester and sweaty clothing... so I’ve written my review hoping to help an other mumma make positive choices from day one! Firstly my son was a good little sleeper; we had made a lot of effort with self settling and getting him used to sleeping on his own early on which made me think purchasing additional products, (products I already had in some form or an other) would be a waste of money- money which really I didn’t have. When I say a good sleeper I mean he could always be better but on the same note I couldn’t complain. I started reading the SOS book off the recommendation of a friend, following hearing horror stories of friend’s 2 year olds waking every 2 hours to comfort suck- I was determined this couldn’t happen. Prior to purchasing the SOS book I looked at different options all promoting babies and toddlers sleep; all of which required some kind of aids such as blockout curtains or white noise, this seemed to defeat the purpose- what would I do if we weren’t home and didn’t have these items to help him sleep? So quickly I realised this wasn’t what we needed. Once I got the book I became obsessed with the benefits of self settling. I wanted my boy to be confident he could sleep anywhere with anyone who put him to bed. I had him sleeping in a snuggle bed which at times when I’d get him up he’d be quite sweaty and damp so I assumed he was hot and didn’t need all the recommended bedding. But the weather cooled and he continued to be damp which is when I realised there must be some truth to these products and bedding guide- not just an other baby item! I forked out the money and bought yet an other batch of baby items; mattress; mattress protector; sheets; blankets; comforter and sleeping bags- if you’re going to do it I thought I might as well do it all! And I don’t regret it one bit! I get smiles when I put him in bed now and leave him to self settle. He isn’t damp at all when I pick him up despite wearing more and being covered with a lot more blankets! I was nervous as to how he would sleep without the bumpers of his snuggle bed and to be on the big mattress without anything making him feel safe. But with his comforter by his side the blankets did the job and he’s happier than ever! The quality is amazing. Everything is so soft and plush; his mattress is nicer than mine and those sheets make me want to curl up in bed with him. I’d recommend these products to anyone. Buy them first time round; you’re spending the money spend it on quality and you’re buying yourself some much needed sleep! I wish I had done this. I wish I had known of these products. I wish I knew babies would sweat if not in the correct bedding. I feel bad thinking how cold and uncomfortable my little man was for the first weeks of his life; but it makes me so happy when I now see him snuggled up next to his comforter because I know he’s safe, snug and happily getting the rest he needs. No fights or stress around bed time for us! Just smiles! I wish I had known about SOS- all of it; the routines; the feeding advice; the bedding guide and the products before I was looking for a solution. I mean no disrespect to any of your team when I say I wish SOS had the same marketing as some of these other brands because every mother and bubba deserves to know about the SOS package before searching to fix a problem because I know the problem could have been avoided if we had just known better from the start! Thankyou SOS

I never would have put as many blankets on my baby if not for the bedding guide. Especially as the midwives in hospital scare you about overheating. Also.... the mattress protector is MOST important. Other mattress protectors can cause babies to sweat, making you think they are hot. My baby has had major health issues but has been a fantastic sleeper thanks to Tizzie and her team. 0l

I have 8 months old twins (6.5 months corrected - so they came 6 weeks early). We joined Save Our Sleep® ® when the girls were 17 weeks old as I was having trouble with everything - settling, feeding, night sleep and cat naps. Tizzie has been personally helping me through the magnificent advice area and we have the girls on a routine where they now feed a lot better, sleep through the night and get anywhere between 2.5 and 3.5hrs sleep in the day with morning and afternoon sleeps. I see you've asked about the Save Our Sleep® ® blankets and I just wanted to share my experience with them. I was using the wrong blankets for weeks without realizing it and as a result my babies were waking because they were cold. I could still cry about it if I stopped and thought about it. Tizzie recommended her blankets and took the time to explain the difference between her blankets and Kmart/target/big w blankets and how they would keep babies warm and help them sleep well. I wasn't sure because of the price and the fact that I needed so many given I have 2 babies. I was so fatigued with the girls I was willing to try anything so in the end I went all out and bought all Save Our Sleep® ® products so I was following the bedding guide (except the sheets, I only just bought those). The Save Our Sleep® ® bedding was a game changer. I am convinced the combination of the mattress protector, sleeping bag and the cellular blankets made all the difference in my babies sleep. And the comforters...but I mainly wanted to tell you about the blankets. There are lots of reasons I like the blankets. I like that I know exactly what they are made of, I like how they feel, I like the weight of them and also how they look. They are large, so fold over and make layers. I add and remove layers depending on the temperature of the room - more layers at night etc At the moment because the babies are still small so I can fold 1 blanket into 4 layers and they are covered well. At night I use 4 blankets each folded into 4 so I have 16 layers. Depending on the day temp I generally use 12 layers (3 blankets). Blankets were always a guessing game for me and I was worried about over heating but that changed with the Save Our Sleep® ® cellular blankets. I quickly learned how to use them and haven't worried about overheating or the girls being cold since. Another thing I like about the blankets is I will be able to use them as the girls grow, so I'll get plenty of use out of them. I'll just need more when I can't fold them as much as I do now. I highly recommend the Save Our Sleep® ® blankets so you have peace of mind that your baby is warm. They are a great investment. Goodluck with your bubba

I have found the bedding guide to be invaluable. The nights I've thought my baby didn't need an extra blanket as per the guide she has woken up around 4am & not slept through the night! When I've used the correct number of blankets she hasn't woken.
